My solution was to mount a small grey plastic electrical box from Home Depot on the bottom of the base with appropriate holes drilled that allow access to the feed point and ground from inside the box. I also knew that the antenna was less than a year old. Next I dropped into loop mode, measuring the R value then I adding radials, and measuring R again. A few years ago high winds toppled a dying Maple tree within 50 feet of my antenna, but the 6BTV was unaffected by the wind. I agree, I'd go with the 6BTV. New to Ham Radio?
Don't know if I had a bad piece or not but it sucks really bad. I usually hear stations just fine above the noise floor. Followed the instructions, took less than a hour to put together and 15 min. I am currently using a 6btv vertical and would like to add the other 2 bands. I set a couple of 4x4 posts in the ground so that when the antenna is tilted down it's supported along its length.
I purchased the tilt base and radial plate from dx. It is a compromise on a compromise antenna that is way too short for efficient 80 meter operation. Can one install a vertical antenna on a roof top with the radials placed on the roof? I have not lost the 4BTV even though it has been damaged several times.
